Relaunching Step Into the Ring

After a short pause, we’re delighted to share that Step Into the Ring (our monthly virtual support group for young adults living with Ring20 epilepsy) is returning.

Meeting on the last Sunday of each month at 11am (UK time), the group will be hosted by two of our amazing volunteers, Kallif and Dale, who bring lived experience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting young adults within the Ring20 community.

Kallif is a long-standing volunteer at Ring20 Research & Support and is currently undertaking an apprenticeship in coaching. Once his apprenticeship comes to an end, Kallif is hoping to do additional volunteering with Ring20 Research & Support by offering coaching to individuals and families living with Ring20 epilepsy. You can read more about Kallif by reading his Volunteers’ Week Q&A by clicking here

Dale is a former trustee of Ring20 Research & Support and was diagnosed with Ring Chromosome 20 Epilepsy Syndrome as a child. At the time there was no charity, no community and very few answers which is why Dale is a passionate volunteer and supporter of Ring20 Research & Support. To learn more about Dale and the work he has done to support Ring20 Research & Support, click here.

Through the Step Into the Ring virtual support group, Kallif and Dale are aiming to create a welcoming space where young adults can be themselves, speak openly and feel understood by others who share similar experiences from across the world. Living with an ultra‑rare condition like Ring20 can often feel isolating, and opportunities to connect with peers who truly “get it” can be limited. Step Into the Ring hopes to change that.

In these early sessions, the focus will be on building connections: giving attendees the chance to get to know one another, form friendships and create supportive networks. As the group finds its rhythm, Kallif and Dale plan to introduce fun interactive activities, invite attendees to lead sessions, and encourage open conversations about experiences with Ring20 Research & Support. This will help us continue strengthening our services and deepening relationships across the Ring20 community.
